Gendai Reiki provides a unique bridge
between traditional Reiki, as it was originally taught in Japan by Mikao Usui,
and Western Reiki, as it had been taught by Hawayo Takata. This new system was
recently developed by Hiroshi Doi, who has been trained in his native Japan in
both Reiki disciplines. Doi has created Gendai Reiki by culling elements from
both of them. What results is a historically documented, spiritually based, and
highly accessible form of Reiki.
Trained as a Reiki Master in the
Western-based form, Doi also enjoys the special position of being a member of
the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, which was Usui’s original society, founded for the
purpose of gathering with his students and teaching them Reiki. Doi found a
number of differences between the Traditional and Westernized forms of Reiki,
but also many points where they shared common ground. He began to incorporate
elements from both teachings into his own work, and after much study and
experimentation, he synthesized them into what is now called Gendai Reiki:
Modern Reiki Method for Healing.
Aside from the revised historical data, and
the different methods of attunement and treatment, central to the idea of Gendai
Reiki is the importance of a personal spiritual practice and developing
intuition. He describes meditation as, “the state of harmonization with your
super consciousness and making contact with the universal life force.” For Doi,
this philosophy is the core of the study and practice of Reiki.
GENDAI REIKI CLASSES
We are very excited to offer our students
the opportunity to study all levels of Gendai Reiki, in addition to our other
Reiki classes!
However, simply because there is so much to
learn about Reiki, we recommend taking a class in another Reiki system before
going on to Gendai Reiki. In addition, because of the depth and philosophical
content of Doi’s curriculum and its strong meditative foundation, we feel that
it is best to first learn the basics of Reiki and to integrate its energy. Then
you would be truly ready to advance to the study of Gendai.
Therefore, a student who has taken Reiki I
in any Reiki system would be eligible to take the first level of Gendai. Taking
Reiki II in any system would qualify a student to go on to the next level of
Gendai, and so on. There are four levels in Doi’s Modern Reiki Method for
Healing. According to Doi, they are, as follows:
Sho-den
(the entrance)
You will deepen
your understanding of how Reiki energy works, and will learn new information on
giving a treatment. To attain greater balance on the physical and mental
levels, you will learn meditation practices and cleansing techniques
Oku-den (the
deep inside)
You will learn
Gendai Reiki symbols which can allow you to work through past karma, help you to
create a positive future, and enhance your ability to use Reiki for
long-distance healing. To attain greater balance on the emotional level, you
will learn meditation practices and cleansing techniques.
Shinpi-den
(the mystery)
You will learn a
new symbol that will increase your spiritual connection to Reiki. To be guided
on a higher vibratory level, you will learn meditation practices and cleansing
techniques.
Gokuikai-den (the teachings)
This is the Master
Level of Gendai Reiki in which you will learn how to teach the meditations and
practices of this system, and to give the corresponding attunement for each
level.
